GE Healthcare China opens innovation center in Shanghai

11-23-2023

GE Healthcare China officially opened its third innovation center in Shanghai's Pudong district on November 20.

The center will focus on digital healthcare technology and application innovation, and will serve as a "smart brain" to empower GE Healthcare China's research and development, a hatchery for specialized and innovative enterprises, and a one-stop platform to accelerate the transformation of digital healthcare achievements.

The center aims to connect global resource allocation and innovation capabilities, and to break down the barriers between the domestic and international innovation ecosystems.

GE Healthcare CEO Peter Arduini said, "China has a strong and resilient economy with great potential. The healthcare market is expanding rapidly, and the demand for medical services is growing.

The government is also introducing policies to promote development. GE Healthcare is committed to long-term development and investment in China, and we will continue to work hard to meet the diverse healthcare needs of China's 1.4 billion people."

With the deepening of digital healthcare practice in China, there is an urgent need for a more flexible and open innovation model to shorten the distance between cutting-edge technologies and patients. To this end, GE Healthcare has launched three innovation centers in Beijing, Wuxi, and Shanghai since 2021. The three centers are each focused on a different area, namely the supply chain, imaging, and digital. GE Healthcare has collaborated with over 40 partners from various industries.

As GE Healthcare China's first innovation platform focused on digital healthcare, the Shanghai center has an initial area of 4,000 square meters, making it the largest and most comprehensive innovation entity of GE Healthcare's three centers.

The center currently has 100 research experts, and four digital technology companies have already moved in. The Shanghai center will continue to empower GE Healthcare China's 1,800 research engineers with digital innovation, and will work with partners to explore the application of cutting-edge digital technologies and integrated diagnostic solutions.
